Dear To Do List,
You will not hustle me. Nope. Not having it. You may be long, you may be daunting, you may include a whole section labeled “Things I have no clue about” but….you will not hustle me.
See, I hustle you. You don’t own me, I own you. I choose to say yes to the things that go on you so I will practice joyfully completing you since I chose to put you there. And yes if we are being technical there’s also a column labeled “How did this end up on my plate” but … the fact is, you made the list so you’re getting done.
4 Ways I’m Learning to no Let “The Hustle” Hustle Me:
1. Acknowledge it! Gone are the days of “things will slow down” “If I can just make it to this date” Nope – those luxuries do not exist. Acknowledge that you’re busy then practically look at what’s necessary – start there.
2. Never underestimate a great playlist. It’s worth the 10 min of “wasted” time and the driving like a mad man to pull into a parking lot and shazam a great song to build a list that keeps your mind moving and your check list disappearing
3. Change your pace and place. Change up the pace and place you work from, work your cleaning list bottom to top instead of top to bottom, get dressed in reverse order. Trick your brain. Keep it strong. Don’t let “The Hustle” become so much of the habit that you can’t function any other way (sidenote: I’m not a scientist of medical professional – that may go against some law of brain function..I’m just saying I’m working from my grandparent’s today and it’s a shock to my normal game and allowing me a different pace/place – and it’s working)
4. Let go of the idea that it’s ever finished. You’re a mom, a leader, a student, a breathing human….it’s never over 🙂 So stop waiting to claim the freedom of your life for the moment when things are done. If you wait for that you have allowed “The Hustle” to hustle you out of memories, moments, relationships, personal growth and experiences. Know when put “The Hustle” on pause and enjoy your life. Because — it will always be there waiting for you, but the experiences and people in your life are fluid. Grasp them while you can!
Matthew 11:28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
THANK YOU!
I found this post after reading your Reset post and am so glad that I chose to read it. I have allowed my to-do’s hustle way to much and appreciate the take/suggestions on how to be hustled.
