Dear Friends,
There will come a time in your life when you feel like you are not enough. There are two things I’m fairly confident of…
1. You are not enough
2. You belong to a God who is
We get so offended by this idea that we “are not enough” but here’s the reality. You are totally worthy, wonderful, made with great precision and purpose. But YOU. are. not. god.
Please don’t confuse enough with good enough. When your boyfriend breaks up with you because you are not “good enough for him” let that mourning sink in for a spell and then wave goodbye to the time suck because he has nothing to do with your worth. When you get fired from your job because you weren’t “good enough” learn from the gaps, and move on.
But when you charge full steam ahead in life to one day think “I can’t do this anymore. I don’t have it in me. I’m tired and weary and have nothing left to give.”
When you are burnt out on great things –
When your kids drive you batty and you wish you could rent them out for a day –
When your dream becomes more reality that you can honestly handle –
When you are given opportunity beyond your capability and immediately think you may fail –
When you fail miserably trying –
When you have to really honest about where you are, how you are, who you are –
When ________ happens and you wonder “Am I enough?”
Am I enough to keep going at this pace?
Am I enough to fufill this role well?
Am I enough to _______________.
No. You. Are. Not.
And there is FREEDOM in knowing that. There is freedom in knowing that while you are not powerful enough to keep the world spinning and to be everything to everyone and to solve the world’s problems over lunch and to only succeed and to be Miss America and to always be the best – you serve a God who is. You belong to a God who does “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”.
So the next time you feel like you don’t have it in you – celebrate. Because it means you’re learning to look at those gaps and then give God the opportunity to do what He can do – which is far better than any plan we could conceive.
Ephesians 3:20The Message (MSG)
20-21 God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us
